Rebounding: Midfoot Shuffle

A low-impact rebounding variation to engage the lymphatic system and promote vestibular stimulation without significant airtime.

Rebounding (e.g., Bellicon method) · Developed as a foundational exercise in rebounding practice, emphasizing lymphatic drainage and gentle cardiovascular engagement. · Fatigue, stagnant lymphatic circulation, need for gentle cardiovascular activity, or vestibular system conditioning. · Perform for 5-10 minutes as a warm-up, cool-down, or as a standalone gentle movement practice. It can be integrated into longer rebounding sessions.

Why it works

The gentle, repetitive compression and decompression on the rebounder creates a pumping action, effectively stimulating lymphatic flow. This low-impact movement also activates the vestibular system through subtle shifts in balance and proprioception, promoting improved spatial awareness and inner ear health. The soft knee engagement minimizes joint impact while still engaging core and leg musculature.

How to practice

  1. Starting Position: Stand centered on the rebounder with feet hip-width apart, knees soft, and arms relaxed at your sides.

  2. Initiate the Shuffle: Begin by gently shifting your weight from one foot to the other, barely lifting your feet off the mat. Think of it as a very subtle, almost gliding motion.

  3. Maintain Softness: Keep your knees deeply soft and relaxed throughout the movement. The aim is to absorb the rebounder's give, not to push off forcefully.

  4. Arm Movement: Allow your arms to swing gently and naturally, mirroring the subtle lower body movement. This aids in maintaining balance and coordination.

  5. Focus: Maintain a soft gaze straight ahead. Avoid looking down at your feet.

  6. Rhythm: Establish a smooth, continuous rhythm that feels comfortable and sustainable.
