Restore Physiologic Baseline After Peak Exertion
Address post-competition crash by down-regulating the nervous system and supporting cellular recovery.

post-race or post-competition crash · immediately after competition or intense exertion · 15 minutes
Why it works
After peak physical exertion, the body's sympathetic nervous system remains elevated, impacting recovery. This routine targets the vagal nerve through gentle movement and focused breath, signaling safety to the brainstem. The oral intake supports electrolyte balance and reduces systemic inflammation. Jaw and facial releases interrupt stored tension patterns, which can contribute to headache and systemic tightness. This cumulative approach helps shift the body from a fight-or-flight state to a rest-and-digest state, promoting efficient physiologic repair and reducing the duration of a crash.
Rehydrate with Electrolytes — Slowly sip 8–12 ounces of water with a pinch of sea salt or a low-sugar electrolyte mix. Note how the cool liquid moves down your esophagus. Don't gulp.
Gentle Spinal Articulation — Lie supine, knees bent, feet flat. Gently rock your knees side to side, no more than 10 degrees from center, for 90 seconds. Sync with slow, soft exhales. Then, with an inhale, slowly lift your pelvis an inch off the floor, then lower it slowly as you exhale for another 90 seconds.
Jaw and Ear Release — With clean hands, gently massage the masseter muscles on both sides of your face for 2 minutes, using light circular pressure. Then, gently tug on your earlobes downwards and outwards for 1 minute, noticing any release in your jaw or neck.
Constructive Rest with Belly Breath — Lie on your back, knees bent and together, feet wide. Allow your arms to rest slightly away from your body, palms up. Bring your attention to your belly, feeling it rise with each inhale and fall with each exhale for 4 minutes. Just observe, don't force it.
