Rebounding: Scissor Kick
A dynamic rebounder movement to challenge coordination and enhance lymphatic flow.
A dynamic rebounder movement to challenge coordination and enhance lymphatic flow.
Rebounding Fitness · Developed within the rebounding fitness community as an progression from basic jogging, focusing on increased lower body engagement and coordination. · Requires a coordinated movement to stimulate the lymphatic system, engage core stabilizers, and introduce a proprioceptive challenge. · Perform for 30-60 seconds, followed by 30 seconds of gentle health bouncing repeating 2-4 sets. Progression: Increase duration or speed gradually.
Why it works
The alternating leg action of the scissor kick on a rebounder creates a dynamic stimulus, prompting rapid fluid shifts within the lymphatic system. This rhythmic oscillation, combined with core bracing to maintain stability, amplifies the neuromuscular response beyond static bouncing. The constant need for micro-adjustments enhances proprioception and balance, further stimulating the vestibular system.
How to practice
Starting Position: Stand centered on the rebounder with soft knees, feet hip-width apart. Maintain an upright posture, eyes forward, and a slight engagement of the abdominal muscles.
Initiate Motion: Begin with a gentle health bounce to establish rhythm and stability.
Scissor Action: As you gently bounce, subtly shift your weight and extend one leg forward and the other leg backward in a controlled, coordinated manner. The movement should be small, resembling a gentle "scissor" motion with your feet just lifting off the mat.
Midfoot Contact: Ensure your midfoot makes contact with the rebounder surface on each return, absorbing impact through the spring of the mat and your soft knees.
Arm Engagement: Allow your arms to move naturally in opposition to your legs, similar to a walking or jogging motion, to aid balance and increase full-body engagement.
Maintain Softness: Throughout the movement, maintain soft knees and ankles to maximize lymphatic drainage and minimize joint impact.
