Why it works
Intense exercise elevates sympathetic nervous system activity and can keep the system in an alert state longer than needed. This sequence leverages the vagal brake via controlled nasal breathing, employs facial and head massage to reduce muscle tension that signals stress, and introduces magnesium to support muscle relaxation and neurotransmitter balance. Together, these actions encourage a shift from sympathetic dominance towards parasympathetic recovery, reducing circulating cortisol and promoting physiological rest.
Electrolyte and mineral re-up — Mix 250ml of water with a pinch of sea salt and 1/4 teaspoon of magnesium glycinate powder. Sip slowly, noticing the taste.
Scalene and SCM release — Gently palpate just above your collarbone and along the side of your neck, finding any tender spots. Apply light, sustained pressure with your fingertips for 30-60 seconds on each side, breathing softly. Release tension in the neck and jaw.
