Why it works
I used to mistake the cold twist in my stomach at 8pm on a Sunday for poor planning. It took me years to track it to simple anticipatory sympathetic tone. When your brain runs predictive loops about tomorrow morning, your HPA axis releases cortisol prematurely and pulls blood away from the gut. By dropping into deep hip flexion, you increase visceral blood flow. Combining sustained lower-limb unloading with slow exhalations triggers the baroreflex, signaling mechanical safety to the brainstem through vagal afferents. Your system downshifts before sleep.
Warm magnesium mineral draught — Stir 300 mg of magnesium glycinate and a pinch of unrefined sea salt into 150 ml of warm water. Drink it slowly while standing by your kitchen counter, noticing the warmth in your throat.
Drop into a Deep Squat — Set your feet slightly wider than your hips and sink down low. Follow the cues in Drop into a Deep Squat to let your lower back decompress and invite the pelvic floor to release.
Scalene and neck sweep — Hook your fingers into the soft dip just above your collarbones. Inhale gently through your nose, then as you exhale out your mouth, draw your thumbs lightly downward along the sternocleidomastoid muscle to signal your neck to stop bracing.
Ninety-ninety resting supine — Lie flat on the rug with your calves resting on a sofa or low chair at 90 degrees. Rest your left hand on your belly and let your exhales double the length of your inhales without forcing air.
