This is a category error. It mistakes the players for the conductor. The most sophisticated integrative health protocol is useless if the operating system—your nervous system—is stuck in threat mode.
You have the supplements lined up, the cold plunge waiting, and the infrared sauna pre-heating. Your calendar is a testament to bio-optimisation. Yet you take your fistful of expensive pills while scrolling through infuriating work emails. You grit your teeth through the cold plunge, thinking about your to-do list. You answer messages from the sauna. You are executing the protocol but missing the point entirely. You feel wired, not well. The promised vitality feels like another metric you are failing to meet, and the entire enterprise has become just another job.
Your body runs on a budget, and your autonomic nervous system is the one holding the purse strings. It has two primary spending categories: "peacetime projects" and "emergency response".
