The architecture take

The conversation around domestic violence prevention is finally hitting on the most important piece: it's not just about crisis response. Chronic, unpredictable trauma rewires the nervous system — it's why I talk about 'static load' so much. When the body is in a constant state of hyper-vigilance, safety is a biological imperative that never gets met. We're talking about profound, long-term dysregulation of the HPA axis, elevated cortisol, and a compromised immune system. The ask here, for prevention and ACCO-led solutions, is actually a demand for upstream nervous system regulation, for safety to be built into the community. That's the real intervention. If we don't address the root causes of nervous system overload, we're just chasing symptoms. It means recognizing that community-level solutions are health interventions.
